Brothers of the Beta Psi chapter understand that we have been blessed with many opportunities that are not available to most people, and show our appreciation for what we have been given through service to the GT and Atlanta communities and through raising money for charitable causes. Many of our chapter members serve the community individually through service organizations on campus, by volunteering in their free time, or by participating in events on campus such as Kids@Kollege or Tech Beautification Day.
As a collective chapter, we raise money throughout the year for the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit alliance of over 160 children’s hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Canada and the US that provide care for young people regardless of their families’ financial means. This annual fundraising push culminates in the spring with Derby Days, a week long series of philanthropic events and social events. Not only is Derby Days the highlight of the year in terms of our social events, but we also raised over $9,000 last year for Children’s Miracle Network.
Nationally, Sigma Chi has been a leader in the Greek world in terms of actively donating to charitable causes. Annually, Sigma Chi chapters raise over $320,000 for CMN affiliate hospitals.
With the belief that every child should have the chance to play baseball, the Miracle League is an international organization that organizes baseball leagues for children with disabilities. The nature of the league is such that each child has a "buddy" who assists them in hitting the ball and running around the bases. This past spring the chapter adopted a local Miracle League team in Douglasville, GA. Each week during the season, brothers in the chapter go the games and serve as buddies for the children playing. This past spring was a lot of fun for the chapter and we are looking to continue our involvement with the Miracle League in the years to come.
